NAVAL SECRETARY
FAREWELL FUNCTION
Paymaster-Captain E. L. Tottenham, who will leave on Tuesday on his return to England after completing four years* service with the New Zealand Naval Forces, was entertained at a farewell afternoon tea by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) yesterday afternoon. The opportunity was taken to, welcome Paymaster-Captain successor, PaymasterCaptain N. T. P. Cooper, R.N. The gathering was attended by the Prime Minister (the Et Hon. M. J. Savage), the Attorney-General (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason), and by members of the Naval Board, the Army Board; and the Air Board.
Mr. Jones, who expressed regret that the Dominion was losing the services ci Paymaster-Captain Tottenham, spoke jin the highest praise of the assistance he had given the Government and the ability he had displayed as Naval' Secretary. He said he felt sure that ; Paymaster-Captain Tottenham would continue to make progress in the naval service.
Mr. Savage also paid a tribute to the departing Naval Secretary. The Government, he said, had been well and ably served by Paymaster-Captain Tottenham, and he regretted that the time had come for his departure. He Wished him success in the future, and trusted that he and his wife anal *«nily would again return to the QnmilikSl. .
