PRICES HIGHER

SKINS AND HIDES SALE

I The usual catalogues of hides and | sheepskins were offered at the fortnightly sale held by Wellington brokers yesterday. Bidding for sheepskins was animated, and competition strong. Prices for all sorts advanced on last sale, ranging from to fd a Ib. Half and quarter wools, in some cases, were a full penny alb up. With the exception of extra heavy ox, practically all classes of hides advanced on last sale's prices. Light, medium, and heavy ox were l-8d up—extra heavies did 'not maintain last sale's high level of values, and eased by id to fd a lb. Cow hides were 3-8 dto id a lb above last sale. Calf and yearling. 3d to id better, while heavy kip advanced 3-8 d a lb. The following is the range of prices:—Dry sheepskins: Halfbred, 6^d to B£d; fine crossbred, 6?d to B£d; medium crossbred, 6fd to BJd; coarse crossbred, s£d to B£d; half wools, sid to 7|d; quarter wools, 4d to 6£d; pelts, 2Jd to 4£d. Salted skins: Quarter wools, Is to 2s; half wools, 2s 3d to 2s 10d. Hides: Ox, 331b to 441b, 5Jd to 5 7-Sd; 45 to 52, 5 3-8 dto 6d; 53 to 59, 3 3-8 dto 6 3-8 d; 60 to 69, 3 3-8 dto 6Jd; 701b and over, 6 5-8 d; cow, 33 to 39, 4id to 5 7-8 d; 40 to 48, 4 7-8 dto 6d; 491b and over, 4Jd to 5 7-8 d; kip, 25 to 32, 4 3-8 dto 6-i-d; 17 to 24, 53d to 7|d; yearling, 11 to 16, 4d to BJd; calf, 9 to 10, BJd-; 6 to 8, 5d to 10£ d; 1 to 5, 6 5-8 d to lO^d. Sundries: Cow tails, IOJd a dozen. Horse hair, 22|d a lb.
