ST. MICHAEL'S CHURCH

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

The annual meeting of parishioners of St. Michael and All Angels' Church, Kelburn, was held in the parish hall. Kelburn, the vicar, the Rev. G. M. McKenzie, presiding over a good attendance. . _ The annual report and statement ol accounts disclosed a very satisfactory position, the contributions to ordinary church funds having increased by. £335 and over £300 having been paid to special funds. Addressing the meeting, Mr. McKenzie said he felt that the progress of the year and the response of the parishioners should evoke their humble thankfulness and give them at least an indication of the greatness of the opportunity that lay to their hand. At the same time they had not yet risen to the level of their opportunity. Much more remained, to be done and mucn more could be done in; the parish. There were 600 parishioners actually on the church lists, and the average attendance at the most largely attended service was only 116. Moreover, there were probably another 1000 Anglicans living within the parish boundaries of whose names they had no record. Hence his contention that they had not risen to the. level of their opportunity. The opportunities before them were tremendous. The task of interesting others within the parish who at present did not attend church was one for every parishioner. Mr. McKenzie said, he believed a great many outside the Church today were ready for such a movement of the Church; there was a hunger, awaiting satisfaction. But the movement to appease that hunger must come from within the Church before there would be much response from outside. In conclusion, the minister thanked all who had worked for the church in the past year.

Reports were presented from th« various organisations in connection with the parish, which showed St. Michael's Church life, in all departments to be in a very healthy and flourishing condition.

Officers were elected as follows:— Church wardens, vicar's Dr. K. C. Morpeth, people's Mr. A. M. Anderson; vestrymen, Messrs. H. E. Evans, W, Flanagan, L. Gilbert, F. E. Greenish, G. G. Hodgkins", G. Marjason, H. Murdock, A. H. Sewell, J. N. P. Turner, P. Wilton; hon. auditors, Messrs. D. A, McCurdy and R. C. Morpeth.

At the conclusion of the meeting.a social gathering was held, and supper was provided by the ladies of the oarish.
