All the greens have now closed for the season, that qf the Seataun Club feeing the last in the Wellington d.i§' triQt, A .lew Qi the greens are available lor 'play while the fine weather lasts, but ag goon as it is suitable for top-dresging,, work will be commenced in readiness for next; season. Several of the clubs are having extra work put into the lawns, .and quite a number are being specially levelled by experts- If ■ this were done each year it would no doubt obviate not only the uneven surface of the lawns but would do away with the patches which frequently are seen on the greens. , These heavy patches are caused in most instances by the undulating condition of the surface and the fact that certain portions are. retaining the, ■ moisture:more than thq higher le.vels. On account of want of water, and m some instances poor pressure, the lawns in .Wellington suffered considerably this seagqnj and during February were almost unplayable -in same oases. If the greens: could be; flopded on two morning? a week, Wellington players oeuld have no cause for complaint, as the greens would thin compare favourably with those of other centres. The closing function of the Nggr-Qma Club at Petone, took place last Thursday when there was a good attendance of members and honorary members, The unveiling Of an honours board for the president, in memory of the. late Mrs, Mathpws, who was a foundationmember of the club, took place in the afternoon, The first president, the late Mrs. Fraser, was elected in 1910, and her daughter, Mrs. ladder, in performing th§ u,nveUing ceremony, spoke feelingly of the high qualities, of the late Mra. SEATOUN CLUB. The ofpeia.l closing of the Seatoun Club was h,e)d last Monday, when competitions were commenced shortly after lunch, :3?he weather was excellent and a happy afternoon was spent by the many members present.

The president,-, Mrs, MeGirr, in a happy speech, expressed pleasure that the season hus been so successful and presented the trophies won during the year to the. following:-—A grade championship Mm. Robertien, runner-up Mrs. Woodley; intermediate grade championship Mrs. J, Wisely, runnerup Mrs. F. NeJlfon; B grade championship Mrs. E, Morrison, runner-up Mrs. H. OldfieW; Farton Mallet (handicap) Mrs. E, Wiseley, runner-up Mrs. Allan; Parsons Cup, Mrs.. Wbodley,- runner-up Mrs. Dgvls; White Trophy (handicap singles), Mrs.. Hu Qldfield.

During the afternoon the competitions were keenly contested with the following results:—Mrs, Allan (croquet in the rain). Mrs, Robertson (golf), Mrs. Page (feather and hoop), Mrs. SneUing <peg), Megd.am.es Thornton and Johnston (hurry sfeurry), Mrs. Murphy (Mrs, O'Shaughnessy's special prize) (angles). A special prize was donated by Mrs.

Davis for the most improved player during the season and Was won by Mrg. Neileon, who previously had a handicap of six bisqu©§, and who during the season was reduced to five. A happy incident during the afternoon was the presentatien to Mra, Allan, by the be= girmerg pf the club, of a charming gift, for the valuable assistance and useful .help to - them during the last few months.

During the Easter week the Seatoun Club held a tournament which lasted throughout the holidays, and took the form of half-hour games. The highest number of points was scored by Mrs. Allan, with Mrs, Robertson as runnerup. ,

As a fitting conclusion tp a happy season a bridge evening was held in| the spacious pavilion at which the bowlers also teok part, and a pleasant evening was spent by those present, there being twelve tables, in all Thei prizes were won by Mesdames Langdon and Lancaster and Messrs. Snellingj and Usher.. A trophy fer- a guessing competition' was given by one of the bowlers, and was won by Mr. Bryant. The evening proved a success both socially and financially. WELLINGTON OLUB. The Wellington Municipal Croquet Glub, prior to closing for the season, held last Wednesday a happy afternoon spent on the lawns, when members entertained the committees. The day was perfect, being more fitting for the opening pf the season than for a.n ehd-of>the-season function.

In their efforts, to entertain the committees the members were nipst enthusiastic, and the competitions arranged by them were unique and amusing, The -winners of the events, were Mesdames Plark, Coe. Oenby, and Roas, Consolation prizes were also awarded, Much credit is Sue als,o to those whp were responsible ler the afternoon tea and prettily decorated tables.

A most enjoyable aiternoon was held on the offipial closing day. Mrg. Wilson Presided over a large, gathering of memb§rs, and during afternoon tea was presented with a handsome bouquet. Mrs. Wilson referred to the most efficient manner in which Mrs., Smith had carried out her duties during the absence of the convener-, and conveyed tq her the thanks, gf the clubAt the conclusion of afternoon tea Mrs, Manton, the captain, referred %a the splendid success achieved by club members in other than club matches,

The dub have been successful, in securing the a grade Inter-club Shield, the members comprising th© team being Mesdames Hogan, Henderson, Manton, and Caldan, the two ftrst^named having won every game in the event, in the B grade association event for the MoKenzie Cups Mesdames Alexander- and R, Collins secured the honour Of winning the "cups," In the Wellington tournament Mesdames Manton and Boss were successful in being the winners of the club pairs event.
