USEFUL FORM FIELDS

,WAVERLEY MEETING

EASIER GOING NOW LIKELY

(By "Kangatira.")

After seeking an extra permit for several years, the Waverley Racing Club now has two permits each season, the result of securing onfr-'of the /defunct Dannevirke Club's days, and the club will be holding its second fix-, ture foe the term tomorrow. The first Autumn Meeting, staged last year, was most successful, with a larger turnover than was handled at the Labour Day fixture, and, with good fields again this year, there should be another profitable gathering for the club. ~,, ■, Most of the events haye; filled very satisfactorily, and the change in the weather, with a welcome softening "of the tracks, should see the acceptance strength holding at the parades. It is quite likely that the going will be verging towards heavy tomorrow, so that the racing will afford a good line to winter prospects. ' , I The betting will be imder the singlepool system, and two dividends are probable in all events. WELL WEIGHTED.

The smallest acceptance for the day is in the Patea County Handicap, but the half-dozen horses engaged represent useful or improving form. The favourite is likely to be the Feildmg winner Wildflower, who looks particularly well treated with only 8.0, for, as a three-year-old, she won the same race last year under 8.6, and her form since /has hardly been that bad, as she did not race again after that success till she resumed a couple of months , ago. It is difficult to name one to beat her at the figures, but Mataroa, Silvahus, and War Lap_ were all winners last Saturday, and winning form must always be respected. If the track is heavy Hunting Cat too would be in his element. The Wairoa Handicap, for the sprinters, may see a defection or two. One of these may be last week's winner Footloose, which would give^a pointer to his stablemate, Life Guard. Other form horses are Race Call, Taitoru, Golden Ridge, and Te Huia, the likeliest of whom on soft going may be; Taitoru. FOR THE JUMPERS. There are two events for the jumpers. In the Waverley Steeplechase Don Erma, who has been a winner at his last three starts, including the steeplechase double at Ohinemuri last month, under 10.0 and 10.9 respectively, looks a certain favourite at a weight that seems still well on the lenient side against such opposition. Sporting Song has also nothing" to complain about in his weight, • only the same as Disturbed, but he has not had a race since last winter. In the Westholm Hurdles, Disturbed, if this race is selected, should make a bold bid to extend his recent sequence,; but he may find trouble in conceding such weight to Strolling, who has. shown promise at the game, and to Chat, who was second to Disturbed last time out over fences and now comes in at 251b better terms.

The hacks and maidens have their chance in the other four events. The Ngutuwera Hack Cup may'find Dark Eagle favourite over Mataroa (if reserved), Eurotas, and Prime Quality, with Karere-Nui one who might show improvement. -The favourites for the President's Hack Handicap will include Deficit, Pretty Lass, Vadanpe, arid Ramleh; and in the Kohi Highweight Stakes the likeliest may be Te Morehu, Mischel, Red Chief, and Golden. Pam. Much of the field in the Symes Memorial Maiden 'is without known form, and the main support will probably be coming for G.old Chase, Sieglinde, Mazy, Gitana Lass. Young Charles, and the two-year-olds Kilometre and Dynasty. FORM AND CARD. The following horses are likely to be in demand:— Westholm Hurdles.—Strolling, Chat.
