WOODEN BUILDINGS
IN "BRICK AREAS"
The attention of the Wellington Fire Board was drawn at its meeting last month to the concern felt by the Wellington Fire and Accident Underwriters' Association to the presence of wooden buildings in "brick areas." Particular reference was made to the building formerly occupied as the Glide Skating Rink in Wakefield Street.
At today's meeting of the board the Underwriters' Association advised that it had received a letter from the Town Clerk on the subject. This letter stated that the City Council had advised the owners of the buiding that tlie Underwriters' Association considered it a definite fire hazard in the locality. The owners had been advised to submit proposals for the demolition of the building and for its reerection in permanent materials before the end of the present year.
