RUMOURS OVER TANGIER
SPANISH INTENTIONS
OFFICIAL DENIALS MADE
(Received-April 20, noon.)
LONDON, April 19,
A message from Tangier states that the Spanish authorities say there is no truth in rumours that Spain intends to occupy Tangier, and declare that they are prepared to authorise foreign journalists to make an investigation in Spanish Morocco as evidence of their good intentions.
The Spanish Ambassador in Paris gave an assurance that there is no move by Italy and Spain against Tangier, also that the Italians will be withdrawn from Spain after the victory parade.
The Tangier correspondent of the Paris "Soir" states that large contingents of Italians arrived at Tetuan yesterday from Seville, also 7000 Italians in the uniform of the Spanish Foreign Legion. Trenches are being dug and bridges mined at Dudja. The correspondent adds that no action is expected, the^ purpose of the troops being to neutralise Morocco.
In Madrid it is officially denied that any members of the army will be demobilised until after the victory parade.
