BEFORE THE BALL

Debutantes at last night's big ball in the Mayfair Cabaret were entertained at several parties beforehand. Mr. O. C. Mazengarb, president of the Queen Margaret Parents' Association, and Mrs. Mazengarb, gave a small dinner party at the Hotel Waterloo in honour of their daughter, Miss Dawn Mazengarb, who made her debut. A flat bowl of roses centred the round table at which the guests sat, and wishbones tied in the college colours, blue and gold, were set at each place.

Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Bennett gave a cocktail party for their daughter, Miss Rachael Bennett, who was wearing her crinolined debutante gown. A number of their friends gathered in the Hotel Waterloo before the ball, those present being Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Miles,' the Misses Barbara Olphert, Carol Coyle, Lola Benge, Molly. Briton-Smith, Betty Maddock, Mary Neave, Catherine Maunsell, Sybil Cox, and Messrs. John Olphert, Peter Picot, Norman Johnston, Brian Smith, Jim Bligh, Hugh FraserTytler, Ivan Appefley, Richard Spooner and Arthur Harpur. '

A "coffee" party was • given by Mrs. J. M. Thwigg at her home in Bowen Street, Mrs. Thwigg wearing a graceful hostess gown of mauve and bluetinted organdie. Her guests, who later went on to the ball, were Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Leicester, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cameron, Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton, J. H. Gilmer, and Mr. and Mrs. Glasgow.
