RECORD DIMENSIONS

BIG WHANGAREI FIELDS

(Special from "Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, This Day

The substantial totalisator increases registered at Ellerslie and Avondale at the past two weekends indicate that a similar fortunaste state of affairs may be anticipated at the Whangarei Racing Club's Autumn Meeting tomorrow and on Saturday, for record fields are engaged on the opening day. The improvements to the track will make for better racing, and there should be very keen speculation on the win-and-pßace machines. Hard going may be relieved by the good sole of paspalum on the course proper, which has thrived despite the absence of rain. CHANCE FOR SERGIA. While there may be one or two defections from the principal event, the Mclnnes Memorial Handicap, there should be sufficient runners to furnish three place dividends, which will be a change for the better in this event. Much will depend- upon Sergia, for she is the logical chodce after her promising effort at Ellerslie if she has recovered from the soreness she showed on pulling up then, Tybalt revealed a lot of speed at Ellerslie, and Tooley Street will not be out of it with his weight. This teio impress most, although there are? possibilities about High Sea and Gc*y Rebel, who are suited by the size of the field. Another very userful field is left in the sprint, the Stewards' Handicap, and the topweignt, Tosh, .will have his work cut out under 9.6. Much has been expected of the promoted ' hack Corato, who has a toxrent of speed, but he has yet to be tested in good company. Gay Seton wate unlucky on the opening day at Avondale and has undoubtedly improved considerably. Day Wind was placed in a hectic finish in this class at Paeroa Bast month, and Trilliarch is right down in the weights if he could only strike anything like his real form. The third open race is the Waipu Handicap, and several claim earlier engagements. Jack TJar ran into a place at Avondale and *this event may suit him. In the minor events ■ the chances of Blonde Princess (Portland Hack), Bronzeshar (Trial), Agog (Hurdlej), Royal Ace (Settlers' Plate), and Spearford (Maungatapere Hack) appear bright. FORM AND CARD.
