SOME LIKELY SORTS

HAWERA'^ WAVERLEY HAND

(Special from "Limited.")

HAWERA, This Day. With three firsts, three seconds, and five thirds, Hawera stables were prominent at Stratford last Saturday, and further successes look likely at Waverley. A disappointment at Stratford was the failure of Oney Cox's team to score a win. Friesland raced satisfactorily and the outing should improve him for the Egmont Meeting next month. Kilometre was in the van most of the way in the juvenile race but unexpectedly failed over the last pinch. Dark Eagle was decidedly unlucky and may make amends in his Waverley engagement. Prime Quality ran well below his best.

Fiancee was enjoying her fourth success when she finished on gamely to beat Ramleh in the final event. Ramleh was making his first appearance since racing in February, when he bled. There has been no recurrence of the trouble since.

Notium's first effort over a mile and a quarter was encouraging, as two smart ones finished in front of him. He is quite at home on holding tracks and should again be in evidence at the Egmont and Wanganui Meetings.

Student Prince had his first race for some time and ran quite well. The Laughing Prince gelding has not been quite the succecss over the hurdles expected, but he has plenty of pace and he has prospects of upsetting the issue in the main event at Waverley.

J. Brown had a winning turn with the Vaals two-year-old Veldette, a particularly racy-looking youngster, who has always shown speed and seems sure to be a useful stake-earner.

Silver Gift continues to shape well in her races and promises to collect when the tracks become a bit easier. Lady Kyra has failed to reproduce any form lately.

Mr. J. Bublilz's two mares, Silvanus and Gold Band,' were recently under offer to an Australian buyer, but the deal was not completed and Mr. Bublitz is now well pleased, as he intends breeding from them himself. Tom Fryer has acquired premises in New Plymouth within easy access of the beach and expects to be installed there by the end of the month. Dick Fryer, with Mr. H. Cleland's horses, will remove to Stratford early next month.
