OBITUARY
MR. W. R.SNEDDON
Cabled advice has been received in Wellington of the sudden death in London of Mr. W. R. Sneddon in his sixtyninth year. Born in Christchurch, he was a son of Mr. arid Mrs. Walter Sneddon, and was well known in engineering and shipping circles in. the Dominion. Entering the service cf Scott Bros, as an apprentice 54 years ago, Mr. Sneddon served his time there, studying engineering at Canterbury College. In his early twenties he went to Scotland to gain further experience, working at Clydebank and Inverness. In 1894 he joined the New Zealand Shipping Company as refrigeration engineer, and made 66 trips between England and New Zealand over a period of 36 years' service. When the Remuera was launched in 1911, Mr. Sneddon was appointed as chief engineer, ? position which he held for nearly 20 years. Mr. Sneddon had a good swimming < record in New Zealand. I Four years ago when recovering from an illness Mr. Sneddon came to New Zealand as the guest of the New Zealand. Shipping Company, and spent some months in visiting relatives and ' friends.
Mr. Sneddon is survived by his widow in London, and three brothers and three sisters—Mr. T. R. Sneddon (Tauranga), Mr. D. D. Sneddon (Putaruru), Mr. C. R. Sneddon (Ongarue), Mrs. S. Hetgar (Khandallah), and Mrs. I. Lupton and Mrs. A. Pitcher (WavSrley).
