HUTT GAS BOARD
A meeting of the Petone and\Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board took' place last evening. Mr. J. Cumming 'presided.
During last month 12,960,000 cubic, feet of gas was manufactured from 672 tons of New Zealand coal, an increase of 1,812,000 cubic feet on the output for March. 1938. On April 1 there was 1090 tons 16cwt of coal in stock, in.clading 949 tons of New Zealand coal. In addition, 504 tons of coke was manufactured, and 248 tons used in the producers. Coke sold totalled 229 tons 14cwt, and tar 11,196 gallons A monthly increase of 16 per cent, over last years figures in the manufacture of gas has been made.
During March. 36 new services were connected. Other work carried out was as follows:—New cookers 22, gas fires 10,»new meters installed 22 meters . changed 112 Government houses completed 235
Mr. J. Adar^s. the works foreman, reported that on March 29 a complete breakdown of the elevator occurred, and all the buckets were deposited m the bottom of the breaker pit. An inspection was made, and the top eleva tor guides were found to be worn right through. ■ New elevator guide plates were installed, and the elevatoi was now working in good order Five employees and Mr Adams worked 24 hours without a break in order to get the elevator working again for the weekend.
