AUCTOR INQUIRY

CENTRAL OTAGO CIRCUIT

(Special to the "Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, April 15. Apprentice riders were in abundance on the Tuapeka-Beaumont circuit this year, and in one race eight of the nine runners were ridden by apprentices. The Beaumont Racing Club has followed the example of other clubs in the Dominion by having the judge's box removed from the outside rail of the track to a position some 15 or 20 yards further back from the track, where a wider view of the finish* is i obtained.

At the Tuapeka Meeting the riding of Auctor was the subject of a judicial inquiry at the request of the acting stipendiary steward. Evidence was not forthcoming to warrant any action being taken, but the committee' told the owner and rider that it was distinctly not satisfied with the horse's showing.

Blazealong, who took the novice event at Tuapeka, is a full-sister to Blazon. She is nothing out of the ordinary at present .but may be a useful sort next season* \ :.'•:-

Lord Puck's maiden success at Beau> mont was a welcome change of luck for his owner, Mr. J. M. Samson. He is a three-year-old gelding by Iliad from Anne Shakespeare, a mare Mr. Samson imported from England some years ago. x ,

A feature of the racing at Beaumont was tire success of Roseman for the second year in succession in both the Easter and Railway Handicaps. Last year he won three on the circuit but at Tuapeka this year he was left in his only start. He was better behaved at Beaumont, and, hitting the front early in the piece in both his starts, he held on well to the finish. He should continue with this form among better class.

D. J. McDonald, who owns and trains Roseman, was brought into further prominence at Beaumont by the success of another of his horses, Hanlon, in the main 'event, the Molyneaux Handicap. McDonald, through having to be with Combat at*Riccarton at the same time, was not able to receive the canteen of cutlery attached to the stake but this was received by his brother, Mr. L. C. McDonald.

Lady Sincere, who was bred by that persevering Central Otago sportsman, Mr. Con. White, scored an impressive double among the hacks at Beaumont. She was unlucky in her race at Tuapeka, but the run favoured her better at Beaumont. She is a six-year-old daughter of the Limond horse Honour and the Greyspear—Lady Victoria mare Lady McKenna, a, granddaughter of Lady Lilian. '
