WEATHER STILL FINE

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to fresh northerly winds, with a southerly change probable by tomorrow evening. Weather fair to fine and mild.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for variable winds from Taranaki and Hawke's Bay northwards. Elsewhere northerlies will predominate at first, with a change to south-westerlies or southerlies advancing slowly from the south. Winds will be mainly light to moderate in force although freshening at times about Cook Strait and in the far south. In Westland and in the far south the weather will be cloudy to overcast, with scattered light rain or drizzle. Elsewhere, however, it will be' fair to fine, although with a possible light shower or two in other than southern areas, and temperatures will be mild.

During the weekend south-easterly winds prevailed in the North Island. These were mainly light to moderate in force, but on Saturday they were strong in some exposed positions from Hawke's Bay northwards owing to the presence of a tropical cyclone which was centred just east of the Kermadec Islands. In the South Island winds have been light to moderate and rather variable, with northerlies gradually predominating. Except for a few scattered light rains in the Poverty Bay area on Saturday and for a light drizzle in the far south-west this mor-ning, fine weather has prevailed over the whole country.

Although rather cloudy, Auckland's weather has been fine and mild. There was a lighj; easterly wind on Saturday, but since then there has been but little wind, and the weather this morning was calm and sunny. The maximum and minimum temperatures on Saturday were 71 and 54 degrees respectively, and on Sunday 66 and 52 degrees.

Brilliantly fine weather .favoured Wellington on Saturday and again yesterday, the wind being a light southerly. Saturday's maximum and minimum temperatures were 61.4 and 46.6 degrees, with nine hours of bright sunshine. On Sunday the maximum temperature was 61.8 degrees and the minimum 47.1 degrees, 10.4 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. The wind this morning had turned to a light northerly and the weather was cloudy.

Although the weather in Christchurch on Saturday morning was cloudy, it was otherwise fine with a moderate north-easterly wind, the maximum and minimum temperatures being 62.5 and 44.5 degrees. On Sunday there was very little wind, but the weather was rather overcast until the late afternoon. This morning it was fine and sunny with a light northerly wind. Yesterday's maximum and minimum temperatures were 59.8 and 39.7deg respectively.

Skies in Dunedin during the weekend were cloudy to ox^ercast, but temperatures were mild. A light southwesterly wind prevailed on Saturday, while yesterday was calm. The wind this morning had turned to a light northerly.
