SCHOOLS AND ROAD SAFETY
General agreement with the view that the best solution of the road safety problem was to be found in the appropriate education of children was expressed at today's meeting of the New Zealand Road Safety Council. Much of the credit for the improvement in the accident figures for children, both pedestrians and cyclists, between the ages of five and 14 was given to the primary school teachers, and the work of the road traffic instructor for schools was also highly commended. The council decided to urge extension of propaganda work in the schools and the appointment of additional traffic instructors. Consideration is to be given to the possibility of arranging talks by' traffic officers for teachers attending refresher courses.
