RAPID GROWTH
VOLUME OF AIR MAIL FROM
BRITAIN
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, March 28.
The Post Office publishes figures today showing that the weight of air mail sent from Britain in 1927 was 10 tons. In 1935 it had grown to 200 tons, and in 1938 to 2000 tons.
In 1927 500,000- letters were sent from Britain by air. In 1935 this figure had increased to 10,000,000, and in 1938 to 100,000,000.
One of the special fire-protection devices introduced in England by air raid defence authorities is an asbestos cap to be clapped over any small fire started by an incendiary bomb. The domelike lid is carried on the end of a pole. For his own protection, the fire fighter wears a special helmet, gloves, and apron.
