WELLINGTON MAORI CLUB
The report presented at the annual meeting of the Wellington M&ori Club, which was held this week, stated that interest in the club had been well maintained and the financial position was satisfactory. The membership stood at 100.
Thanks were expressed to the lecturers, to Mr. W. W. Bird, M.A., who had conducted the language class, and to the Press.
The following officers were elected:-*— President, Mr. F. W. Vosseler; vicepresidents, Messrs. Johannes C. Ander» sen, W. W. Bird, A. Morris Jones; honorary secretary, Mr. Henry M. Christie; hon. treasurer, Mr. I. Cornwall; general committee, Messrs. J. H. Hamilton, J. D. Peart, Mrs. E. E. Gillon, Mr. H. E. Mcßain. Mr. H. D. Yeoman was elected honorary auditor.
Lady Pomare explained a project in hand for the erection of a Maori meeting house where both Maoris and Europeans could meet. In support of the scheme the club gave five guineas.
The sum of three guineas was given to the Lady Pomare Welfare Society, which provides for attention to Maoris in hospital and assistance which may be required by members of the Maori people in Wellington and the suburbs.
At the conclusion of business Mr. F. W. Vosseler gave an account of a motor trip through the northern and eastern districts of the North Island.
