RECENT RACES
The Wellington Homing Pigeon: Society conducted three races recently. In a club flock race from Waiouru, 134 miles air line, 125 birds, representing 20 members, were liberated by thej stationmaster in fine weather. Adverse conditions at the home end reduced the velocities, however. Thej six highest velocities are as follows: — F. Blair's b.c.c. 232-38, 964.7 yards per minute; J. Bock's b.cc 58-38, 960.6; L. Perkin's b.ch. 177-38, 951.3; R. Taylor and Son's b.c.h. 88-38, 949.8; F. Flipp and Son's b.ch. 430-38, 949.4; J. Irenionger and Son's blk h. 312-38, 943.8. j Sectional placings for Y.B. cups were! as follows:— ■ I
West Section.—-F. Blair, 7 points, 964.7 yards per minute; J. Bock, 6j points, 960.6; T. Baxter and Son, 5 points, 928; C. Haines, 4 points, 922.5;; Hay ward and Hoare, 3 points, 919.8; A. Reader, 2 points, 917.9. I East Section.—L. Perkins, 7 points,] 951.3 yards per minute; R. Taylor andj Son, 6 points, 949.8; F. Flipp and Son, 5 points, 949.4; J. Iremonger, 4 points, 943.8; McCarrisOn, 3 points, 939.9; A. Croskery, 2 points, 933.8. A flock race in connection with the New Zealand Homing Pigeon Federation Derby race for the Malcolmson Memorial Cup was flown fr&m Waiouru. Clubs all over New Zealand competed in this race. The six best velocities in the Wellington society are as follows:—R. Taylor and Son's b.ch. 81-38, 1029 yards per minute; R. Day's b.c.c. 994-38, 1023; F. Flipp and Son's b.ch. 427-38, 1022; F. Flipp and Son's b.ch. 445-38, 1010; F. Flipp and Son's b.ch. 431-38, 996; J. Bock's b.c.c 511-38, 857. A combined race with the Hutt Valley Club, Petone Club, and Wellington Society was flown from Manunui, 169 miles airline, for the McArdle Trophy. The best time recorded in the Welllington society was E. O'Dea's b.ch. 269-38, 6hr 2min 52sec The final results of the Federation Derby and combined races will be published when all results are returned to headquarters.
HUTT VALLEY CLUB
Racing from Manunui. an airline distance of 162 miles, Mr. J. Hardgreave's bird, with a velocity of 978.9 yards per minute, recorded a clear-cut victory in the sixth young birds race of the season conducted by the Hutt Valley Homing Pigeon Club last Saturday. The additional milage and strong head winds encountered made conditions very trying for the birds, with the result that the velocities were considerably poorer than previously recorded during the season. Official placings and velocities were as follows:—
