COLD WREN AND PONIARD
Gold "Wren and Poniard were outstanding among the jumpers at the Birchwood Hunt Meeting last Saturday. Gold Wren won from end to end, and, apart from one slight mistake at the second fence of the stand double, he gave a brilliant display. He has thickened and appears to be a better horse than he was last winter, when he won four races on end. He will have another run at Otautau on Saturday, and he should then be in firstclass order for the Great Western Steeplechase at Riverton. Poniard gave a first-class display, in winning the Gardner Memorial Steeplechase and he finished full of running. He has now won his last three of four starts over the big fences and Saturday's effort was a splendid trial for the Great Western Steeplechase, which will be his next appearance.
