PUBLIC WORKS WAGES BLAMED
The conference of the New Zealand Poultry Producers' Federation adopt-' ed a remit from Poverty Bay calling the attention of the Government to the fact that land in the Bay of Plenty district, which was formerly cultivated for growing maize,' is now non-produc-tive except" for ragwort, owing to the present public works wages and sustenance paid to Maoris who formerly worked the land. • Mr. F. Dunlop, who moved the remit, said that th.c maize crop in the Bay^of Plenty had dropped by 200,000 bushels, compared with eight or nine years ago.
