HARRIERS
SCOTTISH CLUB MEETING
The president, Mr. W. . Ballantyne, presided over a fair attendance of members at the nineteenth annual general meeting of the Scottish Harriers and Amateur Athletic Club. Mr. Ballantyne welcomed old and new members. Included in the. latter was Mr. J. W. Holley, who, until his transfer to Wellington, was a prominent official of the Otago Centre and the Caversham Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club.
The annual report drew attention to the fact that teams from the club had won all the A grade events in which they competed, and that three club members, T. Bartlett, A. Bourgeois, and C. Bruce, were in the provincial team in the New Zealand crosscountry championships .at New Plymouth.
Mr. Ballantyne stated that, in addition to presenting the usual trophy for the Ballantyne Memorial Cup race, he was v making arrangements to present a club championship shield. As the result of a recommendation from the outgoing committee, Mr. L. F. Dawkins, who, until his transfer to Australia a year or two ago, was prominent in swimming and harrier circles, was elected a life member.
It was decidsd that in future the" Baudinet Memorial race is to count for the club championship and that the Le Gaye race is to be deleted.
This year an endeavour is to be made to send a team to compete in the Kennett Cup race at Christchurch, and Mr. P. H. Holmes consented to try to raise funds for this purpose. The meeting fully approved of the proposal of the Methodist Harrier Club relative to the holding of inter-club races this year. Mr. Holley, on being asked by the president to comment on the proposal, drew attention to the long list of successes that Otago had obtained in the official championships, and said he thought it was a move in the right direction.
The proposal by the harrier subcommittee to make a levy of ls per member was also approved. The season will open with an unofficial run at Lyall Bay next Saturday. The points for the attendance badge will count as from April 22.
