ESPERANTO CLUBS

At last week's meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club the president, Mr. E. A. Hornblow, announced that at a dance to be held by the combined Esperanto clubs of Wellington a presentation would be made to Mr. W. H. King, who had relinquished the general secretaryship of the New Zealand Esperanto Association after ten years' service. Mr. H. F. Franks, who has just returned from Australia, and. Miss Fairweathet1, who recently returned from a two years', tour of England and the Continent, were accbrded a hearty welcome. Miss Fairweather, replying, commented on the increasing popularity of Esperanto abroad and in New Zealand. During the tuition hour, the new "rota" system of instruction was put into operation. The instructor for the year will be Mr. E. A. Hornblow. After classes Sro. E. Lanti, of France, who is an author of international fame amongst Esperantists, and a perfect speaker of the language, gave a colourful account of Japanese mythology. The circumstances giving rise to Beethoven's inspiration in composing the "Moonlight Sonata"' formed the theme of a one-act play presented by Mr. Nelson Hill, The various players were talented Wellington musicians. Miss Dorothy Spinks, taking the part of the blind girl, played the "Minuet in G"; Mr. Graeme Ayson, as her brother, played a rondino by Beethoven (violin) , and Mr. Ernest Sharp, in the role of Beethoven, played "Six Eccosaises" and "Moonlight Sonata." Mr. N. Hill took the role of a friend of Beethoven. The weekly meeting of the Hutt Valley Esperanto Club was held on Tuesday evening. Mr. J. Hamilton presided over a large attendance. After the tuition period supper was served and Mr. Vincent entertained at the piano. His translated version of Santa Lucia was sung by. the members with much success.
