TRAINING FOR GIRLS

Courses to prepare girls for tasks that would fall to women in war were advocated tonight by the Hawera High School Board, which appointed a comjmittee to make plans for a week's course'next year. • . ' The subject arose as a result of the boys' recent military camp. It was considered that something similar should be done for the girls.
HATAITAI WIN FOURS
Hataitai defeated Wellington, by 25 points to 14 in the final of the Wellington Bowling Centre's champion of champions fours, played on the Wellington Club's green afternoon. She winning four was J. Donald, R. ometti, P. McWhannell, and W. Wellings (s), and the Wellington four was C. Hoffeins, D. Christie, D. J. O'Neill, and F. Ross (s). Hataitai have now won the title eight times since 1913. The match was played in fine weather, though the green was slow after last week's rain. The early stages were fairly evenly contested. The twelfth end saw Wellington even the score at 11-11. Hataitai picked up six points in the next two ends, and. at the eighteenth end the score was 17-14 in favour of Hataitai. Wellington were unable to make up the leeway; and the'final, score was 25-14. At the conclusion of the game, Mr. M. J. CaSey (president of the Wellington Bowling* Centre) congratulated the Hataitai four on their win, and expressed appreciation of the efforts of the beaten four. WELLINGTON V. RETURNED SOLDIERS' TOURNEY (Special to the "Evening Post.") • OTAKI, March 13. Over 120 returned soldiers took part in a bowling tournament at Otaki at the weekend. The day was gloriously fine, the greens were in,good order, and the management, thanks chiefly to the secretary (Mr. Frank Southgate), excellent. Keen games re« suited, and while no rink won six games, several secured five. The trophy, a shell, mounted on a Maoricarved base, presented to the rink securing the largest number of points, was gained by Martinborough, who were two up on McEwan (Khandallah) and eleven on the Otaki rink. During the day speeches of welcome were made by General Young, president of the Otaki R.S.A., Mr. Byron Brown, president of the Otaki Bowling Club, and Mr. C. F. Atmore (Mayor). At the conclusion of the day's play the trophy was handed over to the winners by General Young.
