TO SAY FAREWELL

PARTY FOR LADY BUCKLETON

Lady Buckleton was guest of honour at a morning tea party yesterday, which was given by the Victoria League, of which she is patron. Zinnias from the garden of Mrs. A. Norman Jones at Lower Hutt were used to decorate the reception rooms at the Eng-lish-speaking Union, where the party was held. Mrs. L. O. H. Tripp, acting president of the Victoria League, received the guests, who numbered over ninety, with the honorary secretary, Mrs. J. Barrington Smythe. A bouquet was presented to Lady Buckleton and to her daughter, Miss Jean Buckleton, who accompanied her mother. They^will leave next week for England, where Miss Buckleton's marriage will take place. The guest of honour wore a floral frock under a black coat of fine georgette, and a flat hat of black taffeta. Her daughter was wearing a navy floral frock with a navy coat, and a matching straw hat with an upturned brim. Mrs. Tripp paid tribute to Lady Buckleton, who, she said, was now the league's patron after filling the position of president for many years. She specially complimented the guest of honour on her work when a party of English schoolboys arrived in the Dominion several years ago, and on her devoted service during the many years in which she had been a member of the league. To Miss Buckleton, Mrs. Tripp extended the members' best wishes for a pleasant trip arid all happiness in the future. An additional bouquet was presented to Lady Buckleton by Mrs. C. M. Hume. In a brief speech, in which she thanked the branch for the party, Lady Buckleton told some amusing incidents connected with the English boys' to"ur, and said that she had very much enjoyed her association with the league. She would miss her work during her period abroad, but had many happy memories of its activities in the past. Morning tea was served. The committee comprised Mesdames L. O. H. Tripp, W. H.
