"WOOLLIES" FOR AUTUMN

As soon as the first tang of autumn comes into the morning air everybody's thoughts will turn to sweaters and cardigans of light wool, states an exchange. Gone are the. days when these garments were dull affairs in drab browns, fawns, and blues, for now they can be knitted in all the colours of the rainbow. Pink, is to be one of the high lights of the autumn and winter, pink and green, and pink and blue being excellent combinations. What could be more delightful than a soft blue cardigan and a deep.purple pullover worn with a grey or navy blue skirt? Sweaters are also to be worn with dinner skirts, a suggestion being a slim black skirt and pastel chenille jumper with the neckline brightened with a chunky necklace of coloured beads. Another idea would be to knit in stars of silver, or gold thread. GAS WARFARE DESCRIBED The Wellington South Nursing Division of »the St. John Ambulance Brigade had a large audience of mem- . bers and visitors at a recent meeting, when the superintendent, Miss Paul, lectured on "Air Raid Precautions." Miss Paul. gave a general • description of the various terms used in gas warfare; then of the methods of attack from the air and the effects of the weather on gas, describing the ideal time for a gas attack as a mild, calm, oloudy night. After this introduction, she dealt with the various types of gases, giving a full description of each, the manner in which it could be released, and the effect of it on the human body. ' Miss Paul dealt very fully with the treatment to be adopted in each case, and invited questions on the subject. • Mrs. Gaby moved a vote of thanks to the superintendent for her address and wished the division a successful year. Her remarks were endorsed by Mrs. Wilson. A new member, Miss Davis, was welcomed, also Miss Van Renan, on transfer from Auckland. Mrs. . Moffat sent in her resignation, but it was decided to ask her to take six months\ leave of absence. Mrs. Betts, vice-president, presented Miss McKenzie with the Atalanta Cup. Mrs. Gaby was congratulated by all on the honour of M.B.E. recently conferred' upon her by the King. Mrs. Gaby suitably replied. A pretty combination for autumn dusks is black, with pink—a pale pink velvet yoke dips to a V on a simple black wool dress, and pink feathers spring from a black felt hat, with pink doeskin gloves to match. Against the background of a black crepe dress, with a pleated square yoke, wear a black felt hat misted with a veil, and a snake-link gold! metal necklace. J
