HERE AND THERE
Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Todd Entertain.
There were race-week visitors from Hawke's Bay and Christchurch at a cocktail party which Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Todd gave at their .home, 38 Wesley Road, last night. The party was for Miss Joyce Nathan and her fiance, Mr. Owen Johnston, of Christchurch. Beautiful flowers, hydrangeas, carnations and sweet peas, were arranged in large bowls in the reception rooms. The hostess was dressed in navy blue satin-backed crepe, and Miss Nathan wore a floral crepe de chine frock and a black hat. Dance at Lower Hutt. Mr. Basil Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Scott, 30 Waterloo Road, Lower Hutt, was the guest of honour at a dance held at Miss Eva Draper's studio recently. There were about 80 guests, and they spent a pleasant evening dancing to the music of an .orchestra. Mrs. Baker, an aunt of the guest of honour, was responsible for the arrangement of the' decorations in the supper room, the lovely flowers used including pink carnations,. rosesV and sweet peas. A cake, iced by Miss D. Scott, another aunt, was a feature of the supper, and Mr. Basil Scott received many gifts.
To purify rancid or tainted butter, melt and skim as for clarifying, then put in half a slice of well-toasted bread.
