EDUCATION RESEARCH
MR. A. E. CAMPBELL
APPOINTED
The New Zealand Council for Educational Research has selected Mr. A. E. Campbell, M.A., Dip.Ed., to be. its director in succession to Dr. C. E. Beeby, recently . appointed Assistant Director of Education. Mr. A. E. Campbell is at present lecturer in education and director of W.E.A. studies at Victoria University College and also secretary of the Dominion council of the W.E.A.
Mr. Campbell had a brilliant academic record in education, being senior scholar and graduating M.A. with firstclass honours. He has had a wide and varied experience in the practice of education, havingi been closely connected with the schools and the training of teachers. For two years he was assistant secretary of the N.Z.E.1., and the editor of its journal "National Education." He also acted as editor of the volume "Modern Trends in Education," a series of papers read in connection with the New Education Fellowship Conference in 1937. At the meeting of the New Zealand Council for Educational Research the following resolution was passed: "That the New Zealand Council for Educational Research places on record its very high appreciation:of the excellent work done by Dr. Beeby as its first director. By his ability, initiative, personality/ and hard work, Dr. Beeby succeeded in combining all educational forces in the Dominion in a common purpose, and, was thus enabled to organise educational research on a sound basis and to set and maintain standards that have,established the reputation of the organisation. While the council sincerely regrets the loss of Dr. Beeby's most valuable services, it is pleased to see him occupying one of the key positions in the educational service and. wishes him a long and successful career, in the Department of Education." .
