An anticyclone, the main centre of which is in south-eastern Australia, still extends across the Tasman Sea to northern New Zealand, but barometers have fallen considerably over the South Island. A slight depression crossed the nonunion last night and another is passing far to the south this morning. Winds have been variable in eastern districts, while in western districts and the far north and south they have been mainly between west and south and strong in places. Showers occurred last night over much of the South Island, but otherwise the weather has been fair to fine with mild to warm temperatures. TODAY'S WEATHER.
