COLLEGE OLD BOYS

At the annual meeting of the Wellington College Old Boys' Cricket Club, held recently, Mr. M. C. Barnett presided over a fairly good number of members. :■■

Mr. Barnett congratulated the club on its past season's performance, and also the committee on its very fine work. He urged special attention to practice and hoped that it would be possible to evolve a scheme whereby the younger players would receive coaching from the moi*e experienced players. His remarks were supported by Mr. W. A. Armour and Mr. J. R. Lamason, the latter -making a plea for the bowlers to practise more assiduously at the nets. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Sir Michael Myers; president, Mr. L. McKenzie; vicerpresidents, Sir J. S. Elliott, Colonel R. St. J. Beere, Messrs. W. A. Armour, M. C. Barnett, P. B. Broad, W. W. Cook, K. Luke, R. Darroch, S. Gilmer, and Captain E. V. Sanderson; club captain, Mr. L. V. Browne; hon. secretary, Mr. G. L. Whyte; hon. treasurer, Mr. W. Bradley; management committee, Messrs. D. J. Earl, W. G. Rainbird, R. H. Lamason, R. V. Boyes, K. Cowles, and L. Cording; delegates to the Wellington Cricket Association, Messrs. A. W. Duncan, A. Ronaldson, L. V. Browne, and J. R. Lamason. At the beginning of the season, said the annual report, four teams were entered in the Wellington Cricket Association's championships, but, after about three weeks, this number was increased to five, and this brought the number of teams and the playing strength of the club to the same level, as the previous season. The junior 81, junior C, and junior D teams of last season were promoted to the junior A, 81, and C grades respectively. The senior team finished third in the championship table with 41 points, being headed by Kilbirnie, 46, and Institute, 45 points, respectively. The team took a long time to settle down, and it was not until the return of J. R. Lamason with- the New Zealand team that the players began to show their true form. Alter the Christmas holidays the team did not suffer a loss, and succeeded in defeating the championship winners in the last match of the season. During the absence of J. R. Lamason, the club captain, L. V. Browne took over the duties of captaincy, and he proved a very capable leader. . Representative honours were gained las follows:—Wellington, J. R. Lamason ; (captain) and B. G. Griffiths; Town, J. (R. Lamason (captain) and R. H. Lamason; Wellington B, L. V. Browne, N. S. H. Burnette, and G. L. Whyte; junior representatives, P. Rough, M.
