MR. H. TEMPLE WHITE

LONG SERVICE TO CHURCH

COMPLIMENTARY BANQUET

A complimentary banquet was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. H. Temple White on Saturday by the choir and Wesley Church Trust, to mark the completion by Mr. White of 25 years* service as organist and choirmaster. The Rev. Percy Paris presided and welcomed a large number of former choir members who had served under Mr White. Mrs. H. F. Gardiner presented Mrs. White with a basket of flowers. . . . Mr Paris, in proposing the toast oi the guests, spoke of the gifts which Mr. White had brought to his ministry of music and of the loyal service which he had given the Methodist Church generally. Mr. White expressed his pleasure at seeing so many former members and thanked the Church and Choir for the honour done him. Other toasts honoured were: —"Former Members" (Mr. B O. "Stokes—Mr. R. E. Herron); "The Choir" (Mr. C. F. Smith—Mr. G. R. Laking); "The Church and Wesley Trust" (Mr. H. F. Gardiner—Mr. A. Eaton Hurley). Musical tiems were given by Mrs. McAlister. Misses Joy Sutherland, Betty Turner, and Judith White and Messrs. K. H. B. Strong, F. Skinner, and Graham White. Special musical services were held in Wesley Church on Sunday, the preacher being Mr. Paris. A choir of 60 voices led the singing. At the evening service the choir sang the anthem "The Day is Past and Over" (Marks), the duet being taken by Miss B. Brittain and Mr. H. Phipps, former members of the choir. Mr. Paris preached on "St. Stephen's Hymn," and during the service made reference fo the ministry of music which had meant so much to Wesley Church. He paid tribute to Mr. White's character.

The city is to honour Mr. Temple White with a complimentary concert on Thursday next, in recognition of his willingness at all times to advance the cause of music, and as a citizen who has always been prepared to offer his services for all good and worthy objects.
