GUILDS INCREASING

TOWNSWOMEN'S CONFER-

ENCE

The second annual conference of Townswomen's Guilds opened on September 28 in the Accountants' Chambers, Wellington, under the presidency of Mrs. James Pow. Delegates from both islands attended and a number of remits were discussed and mostly carried.

In her presidential address, Mrs. Pow gave a brief outline of the progress of the movement since its inception six years ago, explaining that until last year, when new headquarters were formed in Wellington, very little had been heard of the movement, thus the progress during the first five years had been very slow. It was now, however, in a flourishing condition and the number of guilds, were increasing rapidly.

Mrs. Pow expressed regret at the resignation of Miss Lorimer, and thanked her for her valuable services during the time she occupied the office of hon. Dominion secretary. The president also thanked Mrs. P. H. Kinsman, who filJed the vacancy, for the untiring and extremely capable manner in which she had carried out her duties since taking office. Thanks were also extended to Mrs. Hugh Robertshawe for her efforts in establishing a sound system of finance and for services rendered during the year.

The re-election of Mrs. Pow as Dominion president was enthusiastically received, and she was presented with a bouquet.' Mrs. Mansford, president of the Palmerston North Guild, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Pow, expressing gratification for the exceedingly capable manner in which she had carried to a successful issue a very strenuous conference. The motion was carried.

The election of officers resulted:— Dominion president, Mrs. Jas. Pow (reelected); hon. secertary, Mrs. P. H. Kinsman (re-elected); hon. treasurer, Mrs. Hugh Robertshawe (re-elected); Dominion executive. Mesdames P. Fraser, Thompson, Oliver, Crowther, Angus, Gillies, Watson, Gibbons, Washer, Walker, Armour, Gilmer, Martin, Kronfeldt, Hamilton, Smith, and Misses Garlick, Craig, and Luxford.
