OPENING DAY

OARSMEN CELEBRATE

Members of the Star Boating Club attended the club's annual dance on Saturday night at odd hours; many of them having been at parties, dinners, or theatres previously. Others who were early arrivals left later for cabarets and private parties, so that the gathering was ever-changing. The crowd, towards the end of the evening, was considerable, but even so, the capacity of the roomy clubhouse was not overtaxed. The dance was held as a celebration of* the official opening of the rowing season, which took place in the afternoon, an inter-club regatta being held.

Several trophies filled with vivid Iceland poppies were displayed in the billiard-room, where an excellent supper was set buffet fashion.

The committee responsible for the arrangements comprised Messrs. Jock Thodey, Max Willis, Ken Frazer, Geoffrey Broad, Athol Lawson, Ken May, Keith Lambie, R. Burge, John Watson.

Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Trevor Hinkley, Mr. and Mrs.
