BALL AT CABARET

MOTOR TYRES FOR DECORA-

TION

Mingling with the leaves which iormed a canopy of brilliant colour above the heads of the dancers at the Mayfair Cabaret on Saturday night were hundreds of small rubber motor tyres. The occasion was the "Spirit of Progress" ball held by the combined motor companies of Wellington. Huge tyres were also arranged around the dance floor, but their practical appearance was offset by bowls of flowers and the handsome dresses worn by the womenfolk. There was a very large crowd present, it being one of the most successful of the many "business" dances held this season. Between dances the guests spent an amusing time inspecting the caricature sketches on the walls. These dealt with motoring subjects, including the trial of the motorist.

The dance was organised by Messrs. A. F. Read, G. F. T. Hall (hon. secretary), C. C. Crooks, D. R. Hall, J. A. Barker, B. M. Blake, R. H. Gray, A. G. Macdonald, and L. M. Naylor. Among others present were Sir Charles and Lady Norwood, Mr. and Mrs. T. Cavaghan, Mr. and Mrs. G. Seers, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Todd, Mr. M. M. Manthel, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Broun, Mr. E. R. McKee, Mr. and Mrs. G. Dawson, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Crook, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Gray, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Johns, Mr. Grundy, Mr. and Mrs. W. Norwood, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Gee-Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stevens, Mr. and Mrs. D. K. Todd, Mr. and Mrs. H. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Blake, and Mr. A. F. Read.
