FAREWELL DINNER

The entire staff of Kirkcaldie and Stains, Ltd., numbering 300, was present at a dinner held in the company's main tearoom on Thursday evening in honour of Mr. C. F. Smith, who is retiring after 41 years'service.

A tribute to the loyalty and service of Mr. Smith was paid by Mr. Keith Kirkcaldie, who presented him with a silver tea service on'behalf of the directors.

A presentation of a radio set was made to Mr. Smith by Mr. E. J. Archibald on behalf of the staff.

Mr. Burgoyne-Thomas proposed the toast of "The Firm,"; which was responded to by Mr. C. Morris on behalf of the directors.

Items were given by Mr. Bryant (songs), Miss Burton (violin solo), Miss Bradstock (impersonation), Miss Cowan (recitation), and Miss Mottram (tap dance). Kirkcaldie's choir, led by Mr. Cook, also sang during the evening. The accompanist was Mr. F. Crowther. The committee which organised the function was Messrs. H. C. Foster, E. J. Archibald, Burgoyne-Thomas, Cook, and Miss Studley.

Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Smith, Mr. C. Morris and Miss Morris, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Archibald, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Kirkcaldie. and Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Griffin.
