SEATOUN CLUB
SEASON OPENED
The 1938-39 bowling season in Wellington commenced today with the official opening of the Seatoun Bowling Club. The green was in excellent order and members and visitors enjoyed the first games of the season after the green had been declared open. .
The president of the club, Mr. H. Oldfield', welcomed visitors and members. He referred to the death of Mr. J. V. Lonsdale, who had been a member of the club for a number of years and who had represented it in the veterans' day competition for several years, winning the competition on one occasion.
Mr. Oldfield called the attention of members to a fence that has 'been erected between the green and the croquet lawn, and expressed the thanks of the club to Mr. R. Alward, who provided the fence. 'He also thanked Messrs. J. Ramsden and C. Holmes for donating seats for the banks.
A representative of the Wellington Bowling Centre conveyed the good wishes of the" centre to the club and complimented. members on the excelr lent, state of the green. The first jack was thrown by Mrs. Oldfield and the first bowl was rolled by Mr. C. McFarlane, the oldest foundation member of the club. Afternoon tea was served in the
