LAWN TENNIS
TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA
A circular was received at last night's meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association from the New Zealand Association asking for nominations for a team of four promising men players and a manager to visit New South Wales and play in the championships tliere and other matches to be arranged. Each member of the team and the manager will be requested to pay £15 to the New Zealand Association and in return will have all fares to Wellington, steamship fares, and accommodation expenses in Sydney paid. The team will leave Wellington by the Awatea on November 1 and arrive in Wellington on return by the Awatea on November 28 or at Auckland by the Niagara on the same day. Discussion took place as to the meaning of the words "promising players," it being generally contended that they meant players who would gain by such a trip and be of some value to the association afterwards. It was stated that N. Bedford, although he was now stationed at Auckland and would be playing there this season, would not be nominated by the Auckland Association as he had not yet played there. The following are the Wellington Associations nominations for the team;—N. V. Edwards, N. Bedford. E. Roussell. and. S. Painter. D. G. France has been nominated as manager.
