PETONE CENTRAL CLUB

The annual meeting of the Petone Central Lawn Tennis, Club was held recently, Mr. R. Moore presiding over a good attendance. The meeting decided to enter three teams in the Hutt Valley lawn tennis competition.

The following officers were elected for the coming season: —President, Mr. R. Moore; secretary, Mrs. J. Cuff; treasurer, Mr. F. Smith; club captain, Mr. J. Shand; committee, Mesdames Lockwood and Smith, Miss Bryan, and Messrs. J. Cuff, Norman, Lockwood, Shand; delegates to, H.V.L.T.A., Mrs. Cuff, Mr. Moore, and Mr. Shand; team selectors, Mr. Norman and Mr. Moore. The meeting also decided to open a junior membership. There are vacancies for a limited number of juniors. The opening of the season was set down for October 15 and the president reminded members that the courts were nbw open for play.

Mention was made in the annual report of the Gracefield Cricket Club, presented at the annual meeting of the club recently, of the fine all-round performance last season 6f D. Gosper. He scored 455 runs (including one knock of 136) and took 90 wickets for 667 runs. He rounded off these efforts by accepting 25 catches.

J. Wells, former Wellington and New Zealand representative Rugby forward, has been moving round the country a bit lately. A few months ago he was transferred to Bulls, and from there went to the Hawbke's Bay district. Then the other, day he made another change, this time to Manaia, Taranaki. Wells is a bank relieving officer.
