WEDDING

O'CONNELL—WAKEFORD

The wedding was solemnised at St; Joseph's Church, Buckle Street, recently, of Thelma, youngest daughter of Mrs. M. E. Wakeford, and Thomas Patrick, only son of Mr. and Mrs. O'Connell, both of Wellington. The Rev. Dr. Gilhooly performed the ceremony, and the church was beautifully decorated with white spring flowers. The bride (who is a well-known Wellington dancing teacher) was escorted by Mr. J. Cottier. She wore a model gown of white crepe satin, cut on classical lines, with fully cowled sleeves, and pleated neckline caught with a- pearl-glazed orange blossom corsage; the full skirt flared from the waist into a long fan-shaped train. Her Chantilly lace veil fell from a coronet of - pearl-glazed orange blossom, and she carried a sheaf of freesias, hyacinths, and white roses. She was attended by three bridesmaids, Misses Iris Wakeford (chief), Margaret O'Connell, and Kathleen Crewdson, who were gowned in pink stiffened lace over satin, cut on similar lines to the bride's gown, with full puffed sleeves and pleated neckline. They carried sheafs of hyacinths, sweet peas, and carnations, and each wore a head-dress of pink camellias, finished with a shoulder-length veil of pink tulle. Silver crosses (the gift of the bridegroom) were also worn. Little Yvonne Smith and Brian Prentice acted as flower girl and page boy.

Mr. W. Atkin, Westport, was best man, and Messrs.- J. Phaup and E. Steere were groomsmen.

During the signing of the register Mrs. R. Harrington sang Gounod's "Aye Maria," accompanied by Mr. Maxwell Fernie at the organ.

On Jeaving the church the bride was presented with two silver horseshoes by Master George Miller and little Alice Grounsell.

The reception was held at the. Mayfair Cabaret,, where over 100 guests were received by Mrs. Wakeford and Mrs. O'Connell. Mrs. Wakeford wore a frock of black chenille velvet, with accessories to tone, and carried a bouquet of red anemones and violets. The bridegroom's mother was dressed in a floral frock with a navy redingote, her bouquet being in cyclamen shades.

When Mr. and Mrs. T. P. O'Connell left for the south, the bride travelled in a model London tan ensemble, with bottle-green accessories, and wore a Glengarry hat. '
