—^— I NEW MINISTER WELCOMED Last evening a large gathering of members of the Brooklyn Baptist Church met in the Sunday school hall to welcome their new minister, the Rev. J. Russell Grave, late of Timaru. The meeting was presided over by Mr. J. Ferguson. Messages from friends who were unable to attend were read by the church secretary (Mr. F. R. Norgate). Welcoming speeches were made by the Rev. A. L. Silcock on behalf of the auxiliary, the Rev. D. B. Forde Carlisle for the Ministers' Fraternal,, the Rev. M. W. P. Lascelles for the Baptist Union, Captain Thomas for the Salvation Army, Mr. Coad for the church deacons, Mr. S. Thomas for the members of the cohgregation, and Mrs. Norgate spoke on behalf of the ladies of the church and presented Mrs. Grave with a pretty bouquet. The messages carried a very warm tone and assured Mr. and Mrs. Grave of the friendship and co-operation of officers and members of the Church ffrid of the kindred Churches. Mr. and Mrs. Grave replied, mentioning their appreciation of the i warmth of the welcome and expressing the hope that as a result of amicable j co-operation between minister and people the Church would make spiritual and numerical progress. During the evening vocal items were given by Mrs. Julian and Miss E. Turner. The Rev. Mr. Grave closed the meeting with prayer, after which supper was served and an opportunity was afforded Mr. and Mrs. Grave of meeting the members of their church. Mr. W. Bousfield, handicapper of the Wellington Swimming Centre, who has been transferred to Waikare- j moana, was thanked for his services j at last night's meeting of the centre.
