TURN OF THE TIDE
RISE IN STOCKS
ON LONDON EXCHANGE
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received September 30, 1 p.m.) LONDON, September 29. A rise in prices has taken place on the London Stock Exchange out of proportion to the amount of business passing. It is still difficult to obtain reliable quotations even for gilt-edged, quota- | tions for which are wide apart. Sterling is also stronger and dollars were at one time offered from all sides and absorbed the exchange fund. | An v interesting feature in the Bank of England return is the rise of over £20,000,000 in the note circulation, reflecting partly minor hoarding, but chiefly the preparations made by the banks themselves in order to meet emergencies.
