RUSH OF RECRUITING AT
SINGAPORE SINGAPORE, September 29. A battalion of the East Surrey Regiment disembarked here instead of proceeding to Shanghai. Singapore has been calm throughout the crisis, although the anti-aircraft defences have been speeded up, and there is a rush of recruits to join the volunteers.
