SAVINGS DEPOSITS A RECORD.
Notwithstanding the recent declined in many commodity values, Australian^ Savings Bank returns do not reveal any evidence of a diminishing prosperity. The Commonwealth Statistician I (Dr. Roland Wilson) has announced that savings bank deposits increased by £930,000 in August, compared with an increase of £889,000 in August, last year, and at the end of the month reached the new record total of £241,----424,000, a figure greater by about £15,000,000 than the pre-depression record, and an increase of about £9,400,000 for the 12 months ended August 31.
