CANVAS WORKERS
TWO AWARDS MADE
AVvards covering the northern, Wellington, Otago, and Southland canvas workers and the northern, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland canvas workers (ship work) were issued today by the Court of Arbitration. The only matter referred to the Court in each award w.as its term, which the Court fixed in each case as one year from May 19 last, from which date the wages clause is to. operate by agreement of the- parties. All oilier conditions of the award came ittto forc*e on September 26.
In every other respect the awards embody the recommendations arrived at by the assessors in Conciliation Council.
The Canterbury district was included in the scope of the canvas workers' dispute, but as the current award in that district does not expire until October 11 the district was excluded from the present award.
