MOVES IN ROME

THE LAST CHANCE

(Received September 29, 9 a.m.)

LONDON, September 28,

The correspondent of the British United Press in Rome -says that President Roosevelt's second appeal was broadcast from Italian stations at 8 a.m. it was generally hoped that the suggestion of an international conference might solve the crisis. This is described as "the last chance."

The British Ambassador twice called on the Foreign Minister in response to an important communication from the British Government in reference to the threatened Czech-German conflict.

It is understood that the visit was for the purpose of seeking Signor Mussolini's view regarding the immediate Four—Power Conference, and it is believed that after the Duce had replied favourably he telephoned Herr Hitler.
