MOTHERS' CLUBS

HAPPY MEETING OF MEMBERS

The' United Mothers' Clubs of the Free Kindergartens held a very happy meeting on the pleasant sloping lawns of the Berhampore Free Kindergarten School yesterday afternoon. It was exceptionally bright there with sunshine and no wind, and those who did not wish to join in games or competitions were able to sit and enjoy the prospect and the efforts of others. There were representatives from seven local districts, so the gathering was-a -fairly- large- one. The games, which had beene arranged by the Ngaio' and Petone branches, were conducted with much amusement. Berhampore" was the hostess centre. The president,, Mrs. V. Hutchinson, gave a welcome to all and expressed her pleasure at 'seeing so many preserit. Mrs. R. Dowsett, secretary of the Kindergarten Association, and Miss Scott, acting-principal, were present at the party, as well as many of the directors and assistants from the seven centres. After the enjoyable competitions and games all adjourned to the large schoolroom where the flowers were a most delightful sight. Arum lilies, flowering currant, polyanthus, and primroses, daffodils, and other bulbs were all there, and made a charming show. As usual in the kindergartens, gay and well designed posters and charts were displayed, adding to the appearance and interest. Two enjoyable numbers were sung by the--' mothers' quartet, Mesdames Wright, Pole, Maud, and Adams. Mrs. Hutchinson then presented a competition prize to Mrs. Stokoe (president of the Taranaki Street centre), and also a charming pottery jar to Miss Scott (in recognition of her birthday). The guests took the opportunity of looking round at the work, and chatted together later when tea was served. The singing of the National Anthem closed a particularly enjoyable afternoon, and the guests all left with the feeling that it is delightful nowadays for the little ones to have such places as r the kindergartens to sperid quite a worth-while j part of their lives.
