"INSULATION—BUT HOW?"

(To the Editor.?

Sir,' —In your editorial under the above caption you ask Mr. Nash or Mr. Fraser to explain how the suggested limitation of imports is to be brought about without reducing the purchasing power of the people of New Zealand?

As any question implies doubt and a desire for accurate information, the question asked is of vital importance to all classes of the community who naturally fear any further rise in the already high, cost of living.

From a dispassionate economic point of view New Zealand is living dangerously with rocks ahead when there is a fall in prices. We must not hide our heads under the bedclothes away from realities and economic facts. It is impossible to "insulate" New Zealand, and furthermore it is impossible to restrict imports without'increasing still further the cost of living.—l am, etc..

T. A. FRASER.
