SYDNEY, This Day,
An explosion occurred in a small Mount Lyell Extended mine in the Newcastle district, which is being worked by. four lessees. Gelignite was used but little damage was done.
The Newcastle central strike committee decided to ask the Government, as a precaution against possible serious happenings, to withdraw police protection from the small pits which are still working. . ; ; v, ; : ';'' -: ''.V"V
The Australian Railways Union has decided to give £250, to'help "'.the striking miners and to impose a. compulsory levy of 2s per member, which will realise about £1740." " "■".
