"Women Today" Party. The committee of the 'Women Today" held a very successful "afternoon" in the Beehive Clubroom recent- j ly. An interesting musical programme was provided by Mrs. Guy Harding, among those contributing items being Mrs. Wiltshire and Mrs. Tremaine (songs), Miss O. Reid ('cello solo), and Mrs. Harding (violin solo). The accompaniments were played by Mrs. G. Foster. A short address was given by the magazines' president, Mrs. McLean, who outlined the journal's objective. A delightful tea completed a. very pleasant afternoon. Pleasant Time at Miramar. The weekly card evening held in the Miramar Central School was again successful. The Home and School Association has found these functions very popular with residents, and the funds of the association have been considerably augmented. The prize-winners were Mesdames Warcup, Morton, Earsman. Wright (2), Rea (2), and Messrs. Martin, Moore, and Ellsworthy. A dainty savoury supper was provided and served by the ladies of the committee. The hostess was Mrs. V. Walker. Wedding in Suva. At Holy Trinity Pro-Cathedral, Suva, Fiji, the wedding took place recently, of Maximus Joseph Bay and Irene Allison, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Beeson, Brisbane, and j formerly of Warwick, Queensland, states the "New Zealand Herald." The bridegroom is well known in New Zealand hockey circles. The bride, who was escorted by the Hon. A. H. Phillips, Acting Director of Education, Fiji, wore a charming afternoon frock of delphinium blue matone, with a shoulder spray of pink and blue flowers, a wide-brimmed toning hat and parchment shaded accessories. Following the ceremony. Mrs. A, H. Phillips received the guests at a reception at the Grand Pacific Hotel. Mothers' Club Party at Ngaio. A very pleasant afternoon was spent recently by the members of the Mothers' Club of the Ngaio Free Kindergarten, when Mrs. Victor Lloyd gave an amusing talk entitled "Humour." A dainty afternoon tea was served by some of the members. Alicetown Women's Club. A travel talk which embraced a trip to the East was given by Mrs. Sample at the recent meeting of the Alicetown Women's Club. Miss V. Vinsen presided and welcomed an excellent attendance of members and friends. One new member was nominated and Mrs. C. O'Shea was elected to fill the vacancy on, the committee. A bracket of items by the club's singing circle, a vocal duet by Mesdames Chivers and Jones, and solos by Mrs. McCallum were all well received. The winners of the competitions were as follpwsi^t Puff pastry, Mrs. McCallum 1^ Mrs. Reynolds 2; guessing, competition,: Mrs. Bryan. ■ I. ■' Fortnightly Card Party. .'.[... There was a good attendance at the fortnightly card party of the Wellington South African War Veterans' Association, held at the club-rooms, Lambton Quay, on Saturday night. Mesdames R. V. A. Knox and F. T. Bradnock were successful at bridge, with a consolation prize to Mrs. L. Gray. Mrs. M. Savery and Mr. A. Banks won at "500," and Mrs. W. Thomson was awarded a consolation I prize. Miss M. Bamber and Mrs. A. J. Morris won at euchre, and Mrs. W. Price a consolation prize. A competition was won by. Mr. B. C. Cull. The evening passed very pleasantly, and supper was served by the ladies' committee during the interval.
