MATCH WITH CANTERBURY

In the final Rugby representative match of the season Wellington beat Canterbury 14-8 at Lancaster Park this afternoon. Wellington showed better finish and made better use of opportunities. Canterbury put up a good defensive fight, but the inside backs lacked the speed and penetration of the Wellington men. This was the biggest factor in Wellington's well-deserv-ed win. The game was fast and spectacular, though there were frequent stops for infringements. Wellington had a 3-0 lead at half-time. The visitors' superiority became evident in the second spell and a field goal towards the end put the issue beyond, doubt. The game started at a great pace and there were many flashing movements by both sets of backs. The tackling was good, however, . and it was not until just on half-time that Hegglun scored for Wellington. Sargisson converted. Then Foley forced his way through the Wellington backs and scored.
