AUSPICIOUS START
The first show of the East Harbour Horticultural Society v/as a success in every way. St. Aidan's Hall was completely filled with attractive exhibits, and there was a crowded attendance when the opening ceremony was performed by the Mayor of Eastbourne (Mr. E. W. Wise). The next show will be held in a larger hall. At the opening ceremony Mr. E. H. Anderson (president) was in the chair. Among those present was the patron, Mrs. Knox Gilmer. Mr. F. G. Oddy showed both the champion trumpet and non-trumpet daffodils. There was a strong daffodil section, and practically all spring flowers were displayed. There were some artistic decorated tables, decorated baskets, boxes of flowers, and dish gardens. Each bay had its own table, and they were all of a high standard, the blooms being taken from residents' gardens. Those in charge of the tables were as follows:—York Bay, Mrs. E. J. Righton; Day's Bay, Mrs. Weston; Lowry Bay, Mrs. A. P. Bennett; Eastbourne, Mrs. D. Isaacs. Trade exhibits were made by Messrs. H. Poole and T. Waugh. The judges were Mr. H. Poole and Miss M. Cooper. The secretary (Miss M. Wood) was assisted by Miss V. Shortt. Mr. J. Bennett was chief steward. A handsome challenge rose bowl presented by Mr. A. Walker for the highest aggregate points in all shows was on exhibition. Prize-winners were as follows: — Narcissi: F. G. Oddy, 10 firsts, 5 seconds, 3 thirds; W. J. Millen, 1 first, 1 second; W. H.
